Session/Keynote Descriptions

Executive General Session:

Rubber Meets Road: How Actual Organizations Are Using Social Media to Get Actual Results
It’s been hard to avoid all the buzz about social media over the past couple of years. Blogs, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter: some organizations have rushed out to try them all while others have been wishing they’d simply go away. Most of us are somewhere in the middle and just want to know “How can we be smart about social media and do what will really work?”In this presentation, we’ll look at a range of examples from organizations that have been successful in using social media to achieve strategic goals. How did they do it? What made it work? You’ll walk out with answers to these questions and concrete strategies to try in your own organization.  Presented by Jeff Cobb.

Meetings General Session:

Five Steps to Successful Hybrid Events
Hybrid Conferences allow remote participants to have access to real time, onsite presentations and meetings. It is the creation of a teaching environment suitable for both onsite and online participants where each is able to have the same opportunity to learn, engage with the presenters and achieve the same educational outcomes. Onsite attendance is one of the first impacts from the recession, and members and stakeholders are thinking twice about absorbing expenses for travel, accommodations, and onsite registration. There is a concern about leaving one’s place of work in such a challenging economic climate. Given these circumstances it is important to remain relevant and accessible to those that choose not to attend.  So how does an organization go about creating a successful and engaging hybrid program? This session will present five proven steps found to significantly improve the success of producing a hybrid conference. Presented by Rich Finstein.

Keynote Presentation:

As the economy makes strides to right itself after experiencing one of the worst recessions since the Great Depression, one must ask themselves, “Is this what President Obama meant in his campaign promise that ‘change is on the way’? Was he speaking of “spare” change? A seismic shift is slowly playing out not unlike one we have seen before. In the early 1900’s, economist Joeseph Schumpeter coined the phrase “creative destruction.” When you create something new, you destroy something old. Whether the discussion is centered around the economy, our banking system or association management, President Obama’s campaign tag line reads more true today than yesterday.  Presented by Mark Zinder.

In this high energy presentation Mark Zinder will discuss:
• How we got into this economic situation
• What is being done to fix it
• The effect it will have on us and the economy going forward
• How those that embrace this “new normal” will benefit from the changes
• How the changing economy will also have a profound effect on business models going forward. • What worked in the 90’s will not work tomorrow.
• What is the new business model going forward
