The New York State Health Facilities Association (NYSHFA), a statewide association, is seeking a Director of Governmental Affairs. Founded in 1949, NYSHFA represents approximately 320 skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities throughout New York State.

This position reports directly to the President.  Responsibilities include:

• Representing the Association with key government officials and policy makers at the state and federal level
• Working with NYSHFA’s Legislative and Legal Action Committees
• Developing and implementing the political engagement strategy with federal and state elected officials
• Advising the Association’s members on proposed legislation and determining an appropriate response

Candidate must have:

• Bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree or J.D. preferred
• At least five years of governmental affairs experience
• Thorough understanding of the legislative process and a record of successful advocacy
• Established focus on proactive healthcare reform
• Demonstrated ability to strategically and tactically analyze policy
• Current relationships with elected officials, agency heads and policymakers
• Excellent written, presentation and speaking skills
• Flexibility to travel throughout state and nation
