Assistant Director of Convention and Meetings
JOB TITLE: Assistant Director of Convention and Meetings
STATUS: Exempt/regular full time (40+ hours per week)
REPORTS TO: Director of Convention & Meetings
PURPOSE: Help produce a profitable annual convention & exposition with guidance from the convention committee.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Support strategy for the Expo given direction from Convention Director, Executive and Convention Committees
- Lead the effort to grow attendance for the LBM Expo
- Attend state and local meetings to promote the LBM Expo and grow attendance.
- Collaborate with Communications and PR Department on promoting attendance at the Expo
- Manage Business Connect program at the LBM Expo
- Serve as the lead staff for NRLA’s 125th Anniversary Committee (event to take place in 2019)
- Help develop and adhere to $1M departmental budget
- Assist in the sale of booths and sponsorships
- Support Convention Committee meetings (March, June, & September)
- Collaborate with Education Director on platform offered at Expo
- Produce editorial content for attendee promotional material
- Produce editorial content for the Locator (show guide)
- Attend industry trade shows for benchmarking
- Produce multiple resumes for Expo execution
- Design registration process
- Reconcile invoices post-Expo to ensure solid financial results
- Monitor registration levels
- Manage all hotel room blocks including housing requirements for all staff and VIPs
- Mentor all departmental staff, and any association staff whose job includes meeting/event/ budget management
- Participate as a member of the senior management team
- Work with the Director of Associate Membership to ensure that membership is current.
- Provide “Manager on Duty” coverage during summer hours
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of five years experience in successful trade show management. Customer excellence imperative. Solid understanding of budget development and management required. Proven ability to collaborate with various personalities and work with volunteers. Prior supervisory experience a must. Prior trade association experience preferred. CMP preferred. Travel throughout the membership region required.
