Professional development opportunities are more important now than ever before.

  • Develop employee skills, boost morale and improve recruitment efforts.
  • Employees who participate in professional development are: more engaged, loyal, and committed to meeting their company’s challenges.
  • Employees who apply new skills and knowledge to their work help their company become more competitive.

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, we are keenly aware of the impact it is having on your family, your daily lives, and of course, your decisions to travel for professional development. With this in mind, ESSAE's Spring Conference will be presented virtually. Moving our spring educational content to a virtual format, we remain committed to offering a robust conference experience, including education sessions and networking opportunities in support of your association career. Our virtual conference platform will enable live, moderated Q&A with presenters, as well as access to on-demand sessions that will be available after the event.

VALUE ADD! Moving to a virtual environment to deliver education means attendees have access to more educational options. This is great news for your co-workers and colleagues too! Our virtual conference will allow us to reach more people in your association who can benefit from this content! We at ESSAE are proud to provide flexible, quality solutions that accommodate your employees’ needs and add greater value during this difficult time. Spring Conference (Pt. 2)

Thursday, June 4, 2020 @ 8:45 AM to 1:00 PM (3.5 CEs)

9:00 AM - Emotional Resilience
Dr. Stevie Dawn BlakelyCEO, Stevie Dawn Inspires, LLC
We all must deal with negative emotions at work sometimes and learning how to cope with these feelings is now more important than ever. After all, negative emotions can spread, and no one wants to be around a person who adds negativity to a group. Learning to be resilient after a negative experience can change the game. At the workplace, many of us are bringing in emotions from home, which makes it harder for our colleagues and supervisors to understand how to support us. Therefore it is imperative to create a strong set of coping skills and emotional resilience. Understanding how to identify and process your emotions as well as how to speak about emotions with others can change the “vibe” at the office.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify personal emotional triggers
  • Understand emotional resilience and how to find it inside ourselves
  • Examine how to inquire about the emotions of others
  • Explore multiple coping skills to develop personal strategies

10:00 AM - Coffee Break

10:15 AM - Right vs. Right in a Post-COVID World? Ethics and Critical Thinking in an Association Environment
Karl Ahlrichs, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CSP
Senior Consultant at Gregory & Appel | Speaker, Facilitator and virtual presenter on Human Resources, Ethics and LEAN.
In the “New Normal”, Critical Thinking and Ethics are “Front Burner” skills. In this discussion, we will cover new challenges and how they apply to the Association world, and then we will touch on what leaders can do to develop others in these issues.

Association Executives know that getting Ethics right is a big deal.  An organization’s ethics is directly connected to its reputation in the community, and solid ethical principles are crucial for the long-term success of any organization. This facilitated discussion goes face-to-face, beyond a lecture on ethical principles – it is a series of executive level case study challenges that offer “real time” practice in resolving dilemmas, with participants sharpening their skills.

Key outcomes include:

  • The new world of Critical Thinking and Ethics under COVID pressure
  • Resolving Ethical Dilemmas under pressure
  • Kidder’s nine steps for decision-making, a logigical pattern that applies to our current situation
  • How to make sense of the most relevant data in a situation
  • How to use advanced adult learning methods to transfer wisdom and change behaviors.

This will be a strategic session, offering the view from 35,000 feet with occasional dips to ground level.  Participants will get some effective tactics for keeping their values and ethics aligned with the vision of their association and their members.

11:15 AM - Coffee Break
